Kunzite is a lithium aluminium silicate, classified as a variety of spodumene. It appears in shades from pale pink to violet, often with translucent hues and strong pleochroism (color shifts when viewed from different angles). Discovered in 1902 in California, it was named after gemologist George F. Kunz. Main deposits are in Brazil, Afghanistan and Madagascar. Historically linked to self-discovery in New Age movements for its heart connection.
