Chalcedony is a microcrystalline variety of quartz, composed of silica with possible mineral inclusions that give shades from milky white to grayish blue, often in concentric layers. It forms in volcanic or sedimentary environments, with significant deposits in Brazil, India, and Madagascar. Historically, in ancient Greece it was associated with eloquence and used for seals, while in Mesopotamia it was carved into amulets against nightmares.
